Christmas Brass (in February)

I love Christmas music, at almost any time of the year. There's something about it that takes me straight to cozy sweater, spending time with family, and that special holiday magic.

But of course, Christmas music is only improved when played with brass instruments!

Today we'll listen to an arrangement of "Christmas Time is Here" by the Aries Trombone Quartet. The piece was originally written by Lee Mendelson and Vince Guaraldi for the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas Special. The song was an instant hit and has remained a Christmas classic ever since.

The Aries Trombone Quartet includes:

As their website (linked above) states:
"The Aries constellation is made up of four stars. The same is true of the Aries Quartet."

I don't think that is an understatement. But is the piece Better in Brass?
That's for you to decide.

  1. We all probably need a little Christmas right now.....

This is a great recording, and quite the super group. Everyone believed it would fall apart once Joe Alessi switched from Edwards to Shires trombones (which was huge drama in the trombone world...) but apparently they are still together. I'm hoping to see more in the future, and preferably more than just Christmas music.
