Sweet Dreams are Made of Brass

Sweet Dreams are Made of Brass

Today we'll be crossing over into the popular music world, and traveling back in time to about 1983. In that year, the song "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" was released by the British duo Eurythmics on their album of the same name, and reached #2 on the British charts and #1 on the US charts. While the song was inspired by the breakup of the duo's former group, the Tourists, it certainly brought them great success.

We move this piece from a vocal duo to a horn quartet. Genghis Barbie covered the piece in 2013 on their album "Amp It Up," and it has become a staple piece for the all-female group. I appreciate arrangements like this, because they can really bridge the gap between popular music and classical music, and reach listeners who might not always enjoy music played by orchestral instruments.
Check out their awesome music video!

This piece has a definite "cool factor."
But is it Better in Brass?
That's for you to decide.
